We look at more images than ever, and we decide what they mean almost instantly. The Practice of Seeing is a way of slowing down those conclusions, of moving from first impression to deeper understanding.
It isn’t a photography course or a motivational talk. It’s a practice I learned through documentary photography, and one that applies far beyond it: in a classroom, in a team, or in front of an image we can no longer be sure is real.
The Gaze from the Bicycle is a five-year documentary project born from an unexpected encounter between two strangers who became traveling partners. Together, Marc and Indira Urrutia cycled across fourteen countries of the Americas, from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego in Patagonia.
Over time, we understood that storytelling is not about having the final word. It is about creating a space where other voices can be heard.
Changing the way we look is the first step toward changing what we see.

The one inside the frame, and the one that made the frame possible. A keynote on what images reveal, what they leave out, and what we owe the people in them, drawing on documentary work from across the Americas and beyond.

A hands-on session that can follow a talk or stand on its own. Participants work with photographs, observation exercises and conversation, and leave with a set of questions they can use the next day.
