Stories in Images

Language sticks when it's tied to a real creative project.

Walk, observe, and speak Spanish from minute one.

Stories in Images is an in-person Spanish conversation course built around outdoor walks in San Francisco and the East Bay. Each session, you observe, photograph, and speak Spanish in real situations—no drills, no classroom. By the end of the course, you’ll have built a small photographic story in Spanish that reflects your own way of seeing the world.

Levels According to ACTFL

The course adapts to different levels of linguistic competence according to the ACTFL scale:

  • Novice-Low / Novice-Mid: For people who can use short phrases and basic vocabulary (introduce themselves, simple personal information), working with lots of visual support and models.
  • Novice-High / Intermediate-Low: For those who can already hold simple conversations about everyday topics (routines, likes, recent experiences), though with pauses and frequent errors.
  • Intermediate-Mid / Intermediate-High: For participants able to narrate experiences, describe places, and express basic opinions with more continuity, expanding vocabulary, nuances, and fluency.
  • Advanced-Low (and above): For those who handle most situations with ease and want to explore nuances, complex narration, and cultural and social themes through photography.

Before starting, we conduct a brief diagnostic interview in Spanish to understand your level, goals, and the most suitable approach for you.

Format and Logistics

Each class lasts 60 minutes and can be individual or small group. Sessions take place in streets, neighborhoods, parks, and natural areas of San Francisco and East Bay (Mission District, Lake Merritt, Tilden Park, Golden Gate Park, Temescal, etc.), agreed upon based on your preferred area.

Your photos, your story After each session, your photos go into a shared Google Photos album—organized by session, visible as a gallery. You’ll see your progress build week by week, and I’ll leave direct feedback on individual shots between classes. By the end of the course, the album becomes the visual record of the story you built in Spanish.

Frequency is set with the student, recommending a minimum of 10 classes to notice solid progress both in conversation and in developing the photographic project. You only need a digital camera or smartphone with a camera and a willingness to walk and chat in Spanish.

After completing the 10-class package, continue with additional hour packages or individual classes as needed.

Flexible Commitment Options

Your progress comes first. If you purchase the 10-class package but need to pause or adjust midway:

  • Pause & Reactivate: Freeze up to 4 weeks at no cost. Reactivate when ready.
  • Proportional Refund: 50% of remaining value if you need to cancel completely.
  • Transfer: Pass remaining classes to someone else (friend, family) with 48-hour notice.

Methodology

The methodology is based on a communicative approach, where conversation is the priority and grammar appears as support, not the center. Sessions unfold in motion, walking, observing, and photographing so language emerges from real situations. Throughout the walk, you’ll receive personalized feedback: pronunciation corrections, vocabulary expansion, and real-time photographic suggestions. Each participant works on their own photographic story, which is presented and discussed in Spanish at the end of the process.

Q: What camera do I need? Does iPhone work? Is it 100% in Spanish?
A: iPhone works perfectly. Photos go to your personal Google Drive folder. Classes are 100% Spanish—photo terms explained visually (“encuadre = framing”). Quick English clarifications if needed.

A: No problem! Pause 4 weeks, 50% refund, or transfer to someone else. Your flexibility comes first. Full details by email.
